| Ahh, the bauble. It can be seen from a distance and has an overdramatic flair that simply works. Like some other jewelry, cocktail rings are standout pieces that can be conversation starters, or simply adornments. A girl can never have too many either. They come in all sorts of styles, from pave diamonds to single stones. In the world of cocktail rings, bigger truly is better. Sometimes called knuckle-draggers, these rings are excessive without being costumey. These rings can be found at all the major retails and jewelry stores, but you also might be surprised by how many turn up at local flea markets and thrift shops. Also, Chances are your mother or grandmother has a cocktail ring hiding out in her jewelry box.
You may be asking, what makes a ring a cocktail ring? Well, let me break it down...

At a wedding this summer, I spent a good half hour chatting with a woman about our cocktail rings. Both of ours were honey-topaz stones set in gold. Mine, an old stone my mom got in Thailand in the 70's. Her was an uber-fabulous antique. Did I mention hers was surrounded by diamonds? Here is a photo of my ring:
